Curtis Johnson, Sean Payton & More Host “First Down Divas” – Fundraiser for Devon Walker

The Tulane Green Wave head football coach Curtis Johnson, along with a couple of friends such as Sean Payton, Lance Moore, Marques Colston, Jonathan Vilma and more, hosted the first ever First Down Divas Football Clinic. The clinic was to help raise money for the Devon Walker fund to help build Devon’s Den. Walker was injured last football season.

From Tulanegreenwave.com: “All proceeds from the event went to the Devon Walker Fund for the completion of Devon’s Den, a privately funded project providing needed materials and services for an addition of a bedroom and bathroom to the Walker home in Destrehan, La.”

Tulane Green Wave New Football Helmets

Not only will the Tulane Green Wave be shifting to a new conference and playing in a new stadium, the team will also have a new look. In December of 2012 we had a chance to see some new uniform and helmet combos that the team will wear in upcoming seasons but now there’s been a leak of a black helmet to hit the internet this week for the Wave to add to the collection.

Many of the old Green Wave faithful may have an issue with the team trying new looks but, me personally, I think head coach CJ Johnson knows exactly what he’s doing. There’s an old saying “If you look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you play good” and the way Tulane has been playing over the years it’s obvious they haven’t been looking or feeling too well.

The Tulane administrators made vows to change the culture of the football program and it’s really starting to seem as if they’re keeping they’re word. Not only are they making things better off the field but the school has had what is looking like it may be one of their best recruiting periods in years.

Take a look at Tulane’s new look below:

Tulane Preview For Game 1 vs Rutgers

(Photo-Chris Graythen/Getty Images)

The Tulane Green Wave will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for their season opener in New Orleans, LA. Tulane will bring their new Pro Style offense in to face a defense that was ranked 8th passing yards last year only allowing 172.5 yards per game. The Green Wave are 20 point underdogs and, to have any hopes of winning or not losing by that number, they will have to get Robert Griffin and Orleans Darkwa going early in the game. If Rutgers can figure out a way to get an early lead and keep Darkwa honest, then a 20 point victory will be pretty obtainable.

Tulane will be offering discounted tickets ($5 Adults, $3 Kids) for a game that will feature two new exciting coaches leading their teams to battle for the first time.

My Pick, Rutgers 31-24. Tulane won’t be half as bad as they’re predicted to be, but it may take some time to get used to the new system.

(Note: Be on the look out for Tulane wide out Xavier Rush and true freshman running back Joshua Rounds.)

Surprise Team: The fan in me wants to say Tulane but the surprise team is Louisiana Tech

Best Conference: SEC
