DJ Augustin To Host Free Basketball Camp

I love it when players host camps like this. DJ Augustin now of the Toronto Raptors will host a free basketball camp in New Orleans. The camp will be held July 29-31st.

Press release:

Newly acquired Toronto Raptor and New Orleans own DJ Augustin announced today that he will host his annual summer basketball camp for boys between the ages of 8-15. This camp will be held at Xavier University of Louisiana and is limited to the first 100 campers. Camp will feature fundamental basketball instruction, competitive competition and giveaways for each participant.

“Its and honor for me to host this camp. I have had the opportunity to meet so many great basketball minds and have learned so much on this NBA Journey. I want to pass on what I’ve learned to others,” said DJ Augustin. I am blessed to provide a free basketball camp to young boys who may not have the opportunity to provide them with life skills along the way.

For more information and to sign up for the camp please visit djaugustin.com.

Props to Augustine for doing this.

What’s The Beef With The New Orleans Saints?!

Well I guess it’s safe to say that Roger Goodell is taking the term “Free Sean Payton” a little too literally. As most of you know by now, ESPN has reported that New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton’s contract will be voided due to a clause concerning Mickey Loomis being suspended or fired.

The question that I pose today is: What is Godell’s/the NFL’s beef with the Saints?

Ever since the Black & Gold Super Bowl victory in 2009, the team has been under scrutiny by the league. It went from the changing of the overtime rule after the Saints won the NFC Championship over the Vikings by a field goal to the bounty scandal to now the contract with the head coach.

While online surfing the web on Sunday morning, I came across the “Sean Payton to the Cowboys” headline and, after reading it, I realized that it was just another TMZ type of speculation filled with mumbo jumbo by ESPN trying to continue getting the attention that they crave. Adam Schefter did some excellent digging to find out about the contract clause, but the problem comes in when he/they start linking Payton to the Cowboys and other teams as if you have to speculate or make stuff up in order to have a good article.

With all the speculations going around, I figured I would come up with a few of my own so I can be as obnoxious and reckless with the computer keys as ESPN writers.

Let’s start here. Sean Payton should be linked to the University of North Texas. Why? Because he gave them a speech before their first game against LSU and the team is in North Texas…duhhh- and he has a house out there.

Maybe Payton can be an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears. Why? Because he played high school and NFL ball in Illinois and I heard Payton loved the Chi-Town food.

Or, better yet, maybe Payton should coach the San Diego Chargers. Why? Because it’s obvious coach loves the Chargers players- hence Drew Brees and Darren Sproles.

That’s basically how easy it is to link someone to a situation. We should expect better from an outlet as big as ESPN but, whatever. I mean, what will they do next? Make up a story about an NFL GM wire-tapping the visiting team’s locker room to hear what the other coaches are talking about?

As Saints fans, we have had to deal with a lot of stress over the past few months and have more of that same stress to come as the season progresses.

It’s a shame that we have to get irresponsible journalism pushed into our faces along with this witch hunt from a commissioner that is treating the team as if they stole his Christmas tree as a kid.

We have enough to worry about and we can’t control Payton’s future with the team, so let’s just enjoy the rest of this season and hope our team can get this thing turned around.

Whodat!

Colin Cowherd Disses New Orleans…Again

What if ESPN cared about the quality of radio more than ratings? Yep, you’re right. If they did then they wouldn’t be ESPN.

A radio personality named Colin Cowherd is back at it with his overly opinionated and non factual banters. On his show he went on a rant about how he doesn’t understand why major events happen in New Orleans when it’s the “unsafest major city in America”. Here are some of his quotes below.

“I ask you something, why is the least safe major city in the country now the default destination for every big sporting event? It is the least safe major city in the country, not my opinion, statistically the least safe. I have been to every major city in the country outside Kansas City. There are only two where locals will tell you turn around don’t go that way – Detroit and New Orleans. And nobody from Louisiana calling me can even debate that.

“It doesn’t have a world class airport, it is not geographically easy for much of the country to get to. If you live Rocky Mountains west, New Orleans is a long way away. Again, it’s not a world class airport like an Orlando or LAX. It’s not. It’s a small airport. It’s amazing, I don’t know what it is.”

Ok, does this guy ever fact check? The Business Insider listed the top 25 most dangerous cities in America and guess which city didn’t make the top 25? See,  Mr.Cowherd all it takes is Google. By calling New Orleans the most dangerous city, you prove you were wrong at least 25 times in one statement.

Yes, New Orleans has crime, but tell me what city with a NFL or  NBA team doesn’t. Seven people were shot after a OKC Thunder play off game. Does that mean playoff games shouldn’t be held in Oklahoma city?

Give credit where it’s due Colin, New Orleans can host a major event with the best of them and probably better. The resume speaks for it’s

10 Super Bowls
5 Final Fours
2 NBA All Star Games
4 BCS National
Championship Games

Apparently the people that really matter feel safe in the city.

Wow, now I’m mad at myself for taking the time to write about this clown.

ESPN, please put a muzzle on this guy or at least give him a fact check person. I mean he is the same guy that said the city wouldn’t support the Saints after Katrina and that the Hornets would be relocated by the 2012 NBA season. I’m done

David Stern will announce that the NBA has awarded the 2014 All-Star Game to the city of New Orleans. New Orleans will also host the 2013 Super Bowl.

Inkstarzz Sports March Madness Pick’em

It’s the greatest basketball month ever. Yep, March and since every year around this time most people do a bracket anyway, hell, why not beat each other on one. Look it’s simple- if you have a Yahoo account, then you have what it takes to join. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the teams; hell, none of us really know the teams. Just pick whoever you think has the best colors or mascot and watch me brag about how I beat you. Oh, and this one isn’t male vs. female because that ended up kind of embarrassing for the men last time. Hit the link below to join.

Top NFL Free Agents- Wide Outs

Another Sunday without the NFL just feels incomplete. With that being said, the NFL Free Agency period will soon be upon us, March 13 to be exact. That means we can start talking football without sounding like a bunch of pigskin addicts. One of the deepest positions in this year’s free agency will be the wide out position. Lets take a look at the top receivers and see if there’s one you may want your team to break the bank on.

Vincent Jackson – San Diego Chargers
Wes Welker – New England Patriots
DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia Eagles
Marques Colston – New Orleans Saints
Dwanye Bowe – Kansas City Chiefs
Reggie Wayne – Indianapolis Colts
Steve Johnson – Buffalo Bills
Robert Meachem – New Orleans Saints
Randy Moss
Terrell Owens
Braylon Edwards

One of the key players on the list will probably be Randy Moss. Where will this guy end up, if anywhere? Wes Welker is on the list, but it may be safe to assume that the Pats will have him under contract as soon as they can get his ink on it. This is the one year your team can actually miss on a wide out and still find some similar talent.
