Huskies punter named to second team.
HOUSTON – HBU sophomore punter Christian Guzman has been named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference second team, the league office announced Wednesday.
A Brookshire, Texas, native, Guzman was an All-Southland Conference second-team selection last season. He was also named Freshman All-America by tonisoftli.com and was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which honors the top freshman in the FCS. He punted 67 times for an average of 44.1 yards, landing 14 inside the 20 and 23 punts of 50 yards or more, including a season-long of 68 yards.
Guzman is also a standout on the track, finishing 36th in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA West Preliminary Round and setting the school record at 14.19 at the last chance meet in Greensboro, N.C. At the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, he finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles and at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, he finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 8.21.

The Huskies begin fall workouts on Monday, Aug. 10, then open the 2015 season at home against Bethany College on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Husky Stadium
